5 Kat Von D Lipstick Shades You Need This Fall

Kat Von D’s makeup line is known for their Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks because they actually are the closest thing to everlasting that I’ve come across so far! Kat Von D products are cruelty free and vegan. Here are five shades that would be perfect for fall even though I know fall is technically half way through!

Lolita I- This is honestly my favourite shade like ever. I wear it all the time all year around but it looks extra amazing in fall since it’s more brownish and looks perfect with the changing of the leaves and weather. Also this is the perfect shade for people with olive skin looking for a nude lipstick that doesn’t look weird.

Lolita II- Another perfect shade for fall. It’s really beautiful and again since it’s more orange it looks great in fall with the changing leaves.

Madrid- This is more of a warm redwood color and again a really perfect nude lipstick for people with olive skin.

Bow N Arrow

Bow N Arrow- I never get tired of brown shades and this is another one that is just so warm and perfect for fall.

Outlaw-  Don’t worry this isn’t another brown shade! This one is a brick red because red always looks classy and elegant especially in fall when some of the trees are all red and pretty!

The Guy From Another League by Kristina Gallo

GoodReads Blurb:

This is a book about a girl who made a wrong choice. It will bring her humiliation and disgrace. Her relationship will bring out the worse from her. She will gamble with her reputation, lose her friends and dignity. All for the guy who just wanted the one-night stand.

My Thoughts:

Before I start this I just want to appreciate the fact that Kristina’s first language is not English yet she has managed to publish a number of books in English which I think is really inspiring!

I am not a fan of books about love and relationships in general so I was slightly skeptical about this one. However, I knew that it would be interesting since I have read other works written by Kristina and I was impressed with them. As expected I was pleasantly surprised by this one too.

The book is about a girl, Renata, who falls in love with a man, Davon, who clearly doesn’t want the same things as her from the relationship. It’s eye opening and beautifully realistic. If you’re sick of reading about super feminine women who are portrayed unrealistically this is definitely the book for you. I would definitely recommend it and even if you usually don’t read these sort of books in general.

ELF BB Cream With SPF 20 Review

I have started using this product for a few weeks now and I decided to do a little review about it because I was so freaking impressed! Now if you’ve read any of my other makeup posts you’ll know I love ELF and it’s my favourite vegan and cruelty free beauty brand right now. It was so affordable, honestly, when I first bought an e.l.f product I was like that’s suspicious like do they not have good quality products but they do!

Anyway, back to the BB cream, I was again a little skeptical because I’m not a big fan of BB creams or foundation because I have pretty dry skin and a lot of foundations and BB creams I tried prior to this ended up making my skin look even dryer and sometimes flaky.

I bought the product a while back but I didn’t actually try it till I got back to Kenya and I was left speechless (which is shocking for me I talk about everything including the taste of water). To begin with it was so creamy and beautiful it made my skin look not only hydrated but radiant and my face seemed to glow! I have NEVER used a foundation or BB cream that made me look like that and I was always trying to look for products to make me look like that.

Secondly, the product had an amazing coverage for a BB cream- usually I have do like 2 layers with BB cream to get that much coverage but this had the coverage of a foundation! Although I do have to point out that I don’t have any acne or scars or noticeable marks on my face I just have some discolouration so I don’t need that much coverage- if you do have any of the above use a concealer as well as the BB cream because even though it does have great coverage it’s not a concealer. But anyway, it did cover up my skin really well.

Thirdly, it was so lightweight and natural looking that you can totally wear it on a daily basis and no one would even realise you’re wearing any makeup! It blends really well and looks so natural you just look like you have a nice natural glow.

Lastly, it costs $6.00 and weighs 285ml which is super affordable even for a drugstore brand! It’s also packaged really well so you can easily travel with it or carry it around with you in case you want to retouch your makeup although honestly, I wear it all day sometimes and it doesn’t move an inch.

FINAL THOUGHTS: To sum it up I was super impressed with this product! It’s really affordable, has an amazing formula, works for both dry and oily skin plus as an extra added bonus it’s both vegan and cruelty free!

DusitD2

As you guys know I’ve been back in Nairobi for a while and I thought I would explore a little and go see some new places I’ve never been to before. This post is actually coming in a little late because we visited the place like 3 weeks ago.

Anyway we decided to first check out the Rouge Deck which is by far the coolest place I’ve been to recently! It’s located in DusitD2 which is actually a hotel but has a lot of cool things too! They have a red pool and there’s a sitting area in the pool- like right in it- which is why it’s called the Rouge Deck! That was a really bad description to be honest so just check out the pictures below to get a better idea of what it looks like!

Once we were done with our drinks we decided to check out the rest of DusitD2. First we checked out the super awesome looking restaurants which also have vegan and vegetarian options!

Then we decided to go see their studio which was the prettiest place ever with some amazing artwork!

Later we decided to explore a little more, however, some of the floors are restricted but we were lucky enough to go see them anyway!

Overall, I had an amazing time! They have some amazing restaurants if you’re interested in going to eat, they have some super cute little stores if you’re in the mood to buy something and if you just want to hang out and have some drinks the Rouge Lounge is absolutely the perfect place for it!

My 5 Favorite Matte Lipsticks!

  1. Kat Von D– I’m going to start out by saying that Kat Von D is kind of pricey however her everlasting liquid lipsticks are the greatest lipsticks I’ve ever used. Nothing else has ever compared and if it wasn’t for the fact that they are pretty expensive I would have all of them! They feel so light like you’re not even wearing any lipstick and they stay on no matter what! Seriously, the world could end and your lipstick would still be on fleek. My favourite shade so far has been Lolita I.
  2. E.L.FThese are so affordable and really great to use! No they won’t stay on for the whole day and you’ll probably need to reapply them every hour or so but they are still really great if you’re on a budget and need some good matte lipsticks. The quality is really good and the colours are super cute!
  3. Huda– Again her lipsticks are on the pricey side but they are so worth it because they look absolutely amazing and stay on for at least a few hours depending on what you’ll be doing! The colours are amazing and her lip sets come with a liner too which makes it so much easier to contour your lips!
  4. Sleek– their matte lipsticks are my second favourite to wear when I’m going to be eating or drinking because they too tend to stay. Not as great as Kat Von D but a much more affordable alternative with pretty similar results. They have a really great variety of shades too!
  5. NYX– NYX are another more affordable brand on the list and they’re great if you’re on a budget. In all honesty I don’t own a lot of NYX lipsticks but the ones that I do have are absolutely amazing! No they won’t last forever but they are really cute and they’re not the annoying dry matte so they don’t make your lips look super dry. Also you can always reapply them.

My February

February was a pretty fun month and I thought I would share some of my favorite books and music from that month.

Books

bridget-jones-diary

“She smokes like a chimney, drinks like a fish and dresses like her mother”

Bridget Jones’s Diary by Helen Fielding- this book is eccentric, hilarious, crazy and fun. It may not be a literary classic but everyone needs to read this book at least once. It’s about a woman, Bridget, who is concerned about dying alone and being eaten by her dogs. In her desperation she ends up with a flirty, player and snubs a genuinely sweet man. The story consists of her figuring her life out and learning more about herself at the same time. If you want to read my full review for this book click here.

The Unknown Ego– this book is about the Freudian theory of the ego and how it effects behavior. It explains from a psychodynamic approach how human behavior is effected by the by our earlier experiences in life. I would not really encourage everyone to read it but I would encourage anyone who is interested in psychology, especially the psychodynamic approach, to check this book out. I’m still barely starting to learn psychology but since I want to become a therapist I thought I should read up on it and this book was so easy to follow and simple so I also really liked it for that reason.

“The quicker you let go of old cheese the sooner you find new cheese”

Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Jones- as someone who finds change thoroughly uncomfortable this book was pretty helpful. I can sometimes be obsessive and I enjoy being habitual but this book was really helpful in pointing out the errors of my ways. To anyone who suffers from something similar I would strongly advise you to pick up a copy of this book.

Music

I don’t really have a particular song that I am obsessed with right now (except Work because it keeps getting stuck in my head) but I right now I am obsessed with The Ramones and everything by them.

Movies

Bridget Jones’s Diary– I really wanted to watch this movie after reading the book and I have to admit it was a great movie. The plot was very similar although not the same as some timings of events were changed. Something I didn’t particularly enjoy in the movie was how they had cut out most of the things Bridget’s mother and father did. Apart from a few annoying changes most of the changes were actually good and didn’t ruin the movie or plot at all. I also liked how the picked Colin Firth to play Mark Darcy!

The Man From U.N.C.L.E– this movie was both funny and entertaining. It had quite some action in it so it didn’t get boring at all. The witty humor, sarcasm and irony made the movie very enjoyable to watch. The plot pretty much revolves around two agents, one Russian and one American, who are forced to work together during the time of the Cold War.

My Favorite Books Of 2015

*Warning: May Contain Spoilers*

This year I have tried to do a lot of new things (like start blogging) and so I tried to read more books than I usually do. I tried to read at least one book a week and these are some of my favorite books I have read this year in no particular order.

Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Leuithan

“You can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose, but you can’t pick your friends nose”

I read this book pretty recently and absolutely fell in love with it. Honestly everything John Green does is pure genius but in this book David Leuithan adds his own spin to the story which makes it even better. This is probably my favorite YA book. Not only is it very relatable and down-to-earth it also brings out a lot of important issues we all need to deal with. It revolves around two teenagers both called Will Grayson and an openly gay friend Tiny Cooper. The two Will’s accidently bump into each other one night and the second Will Grayson who is gay ends up having a deep connection with Tiny Cooper. From there the story progresses and involves a lot of drama, singing, acting, whining and bickering (and that’s just the first Will Grayson!). The first Will Grayson’s parts are written by John Green. He is whiny, mildly irritating, pessimistic and needy. The second Will Grayson’s parts are written by David Leuithan. He is depressed, also pessimistic, gay, an introvert and cynical. I would highly recommend that you read this book. I’ve also written a review on this book that you can check out here.

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

“One could not count the moons that shimmer on her roofs, or the thousand splendid suns that hide behind her walls”

This touching book is truly incredible. It revolves around the life of two Afghanistani women who come from different backgrounds but wind up suffering the same fate. It begins with Mariam who is under sad circumstances forced to marry a man more than twice her age when she herself is only a young teenager. The same happens to Laila and she is coincidently forced to marry the same man a few years later. He is abusive and savage and makes their life an absolute living hell however after going through so much together Laila and Mariam form a special bond that brings them together as they start to plot to do the impossible- escape their husband. Their past often comes back to haunt them all through the book. This book also gives us an insight on the life lived in Afghanistan in the latter half of the twentieth century.

Paper Towns by John Green

“It is so hard to leave until you leave. And then it is the easiest goddamned thing in the world”

John Green is definitely one of my favorite writers mainly because I can always relate to his characters. Paper Towns is pretty dark but at the same time it is really realistic and relatable. It revolves around a teenager called Quentin and his crush Margo. When they were young they were really good friends but eventually they grew apart and Margo grew up to be very popular but completely unhappy with her life and Quentin grew up to be an average teenager who was okay with how his life was going. However, everything changes one night when Margo takes Quentin on an adventure than completely disappears. Quentin thinks she wants him to find her and in doing so he learns more about himself and her than he ever thought possible and he starts wanting and doing things he never knew he could. This book is both engaging and amusing at the same time. If you want to read more about this book I have written a full review that you can read here.

An Abundance Of Katherine’s by John Green

“What is the point of being alive if you don’t at least try to do something remarkable?”

As you can tell I’m pretty much obsessed with John Green’s books right now so obviously I needed to add this one to the list too. Unlike most of Green’s books this one is lighter and more amusing than anything else. The main character, a teenager called Colin only dates girls called Katherine starting with the letter K. His life seems to be going downhill as his girlfriend breaks up with him so he goes on a road trip with his overly optimistic best friend Hassan. On the way he thinks about what he wants to do with his life and learns how to deal with not being perfect or a genius. On the way he meets Lindsay who has some issues of her own and together they begin to learn about life and its meaning.

A Game Of Thrones by George R. R. Martin

“Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor and it can never be used to hurt you.”

So I finally began reading George R. R. Martin’s series of A Song Of Fire And Ice and I had to add this book to the list. So the story revolves around the Stark’s, Baratheon’s, Lannister’s and Daenerys Targaryen. When Ned becomes Hand to King Robert Baratheon he discovers dark secrets that are being kept in the palace and his learning the truth may just end up destroying his entire family. On the other hand, Daenerys is married off by her psychotic brother to Khal Drago and at first she is miserable but soon she learns to embrace her new life and even begins enjoying it. The best part about reading all this is you get so much inside information the TV show doesn’t offer. I mean I love the show but the book is definitely more detailed and in-depth in comparison. This series of books are amazing and you should definitely read them especially if you’re a fan of the TV show. You can also read my full review of this book here.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

“She was one of the few souls that made me wonder what it was to live”

I think this is my favorite book of all time. It is really unique in the sense that it is narrated by none other than death himself. It is absolutely amazing and has brought out so many feelings! It is set in Nazi Germany and revolves around a young girl called Liesel. Her parents who were communists left her with the Hubermann’s to keep her safe. She soon becomes friends with Rudy Steiner her neighbor and they go on lots of adventures together and eventually end up being very close. She also grows close to her gentle hearted and caring step-father Hans Hubermann and her short-tempered but loving step-mother Rosa Hubermann. This story is a rollercoaster of emotions but it’s worth it. It also gives a great insight on the life of Germans during the rule of the Nazi’s and the Second World War. If you want to read my full review on the book you can read it here.

Hello world!

Hi everyone! So I have always been obsessed with psychology and why people and animals behave the way they do and why individual differences exist. Music and literature are my passion and so I’ll be writing about those too. Just in a nutshell I’m not really going to write about a specific field or whatever, this blog is just about life in general so hope everyone loves it!
