How I Saved My Skin

For as long as I can remember I’ve always had pretty dry skin. As a kid I had a little bit of an eczema problem but luckily (fingers crossed!) I’m okay now but I still have really sensitive and dry skin. I try to avoid using a lot of chemicals on my skin and I only rarely do full face makeup. Even though a lot of companies swear that their products work for people with sensitive skin they don’t usually work for me. However, a few months ago I subscribed to Ipsy and got my first Ipsy Bag. I’m not going to lie, it was kind of disappointing and even though the products I got were good they just weren’t what I was looking for at the moment. But, there was one thing that blew my mind away! That was the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream. Again, I’m going to be honest and say that I had actually not heard of FAB before this so I did what any normal human would do- I Googled.

Turns out FAB creates all these amazing products for people with sensitive skin. So I began using the lotion and to my surprise it made my skin so much better! It didn’t look all dead and dry anymore and it actually had a healthy glow to it! Plus, the lotion is so light you don’t even feel like you have something on your face which is awesome because a lot of products are heavy and it feels like you have so much product on your face! I use it on a daily basis- once after I take a shower and once before I go to sleep at night. The one I get is travel sized so I can carry it around with me and take it with me when I travel! However, they do have a bigger size in case you’re interested.

Anyway, I just wanted to share this product with you in case you’re suffering from any skin problems and need to find products for sensitive skin. This is just something I found and I thought I would share with you guys!

Makeup Products I Hated

Maybelline Strobing Stick- I’m a really big fan of Maybelline and I’ve liked almost all their products but this product just fell short. It didn’t have a great glow and it kind of just looked weird because you have to wear so much of it.

E.L.F Highlighter- I’m a big fan of both E.L.F and powder highlighters so I thought this would work out great but I really hated this highlighter. I know some makeup guru’s/bloggers really like it but this just wasn’t for me.  It didn’t have that much glow and it was really flaky and hard to use.

E.L.F Lip Primer and Plumper– I didn’t have any particular problem with this product except that I don’t think it works. The primer part is fine but the plumper in my experience just didn’t work. I already have pretty large lips so I didn’t mind that much since it hydrated them really well and since it tingled it made them nice and pink but for someone who has smaller lips and is looking for an actual way to plump their lips this product is just not for you.

Covergirl Mascara- Compared to other mascaras I’ve used this just doesn’t cut it. It looks okay but it really isn’t anything to brag about. It does make your lashes slightly darker and fuller but if you’re looking for a really full look this is not for you.

Nyx Stay Matte But Not Flat Foundation– This actually looked really good when I put it on but it really didn’t stay on well. After a few hours it started to smudge and move around and I ended up looking like a crazy person! I thought maybe the problem was me and I wasn’t using it right so I looked at other reviews and I saw that many people had similar experiences to mine. If you’re looking for a good matte foundation I would recommend Maybelline (not vegan or cruelty free) or ELF (vegan and cruelty free) or Eco Beauty Crew (cruelty free and has vegan options).

My Favourite Vegan Brands: Arbonne

Again this is another one of those brands that I had heard about but I didn’t know much about till just some time ago. As usual I was going through vegan makeup posts on Instagram and I ended up seeing a lot of posts about Arbonne which obviously made me a little curious!

Turns out they are vegan, cruelty-free , non-GMO, Kosher and gluten free. They are not crazy expensive but they are on the expensive side so if you’re looking for super affordable makeup this is not for you but if you don’t mind the price and want really good quality makeup then I suggest taking a look at their site!

I really like that they are free of a lot of other things too because most makeup brands that are vegan and cruelty free aren’t always free of other things and not everyone can use them!

They ship to the US, UK, Canada, Poland, New Zealand, Australia and Taiwan. They use pure, safe and beneficial products which are said to help your skin stay healthy. I would especially recommend this brand if you have really sensitive skin because I do and sometimes some brands don’t work well with my skin and I end up having breakouts.

My Favourite Vegan Brands: Eco Beauty Crew

I was thinking about writing about my favourite vegan, cruelty free, environmentally friendly makeup brands so I thought I would do it over multiple posts because there are actually a lot of these brands out there! I also wanted to do these posts because a lot of these brands have really great good quality makeup but since they are smaller companies they can’t really get their name out there as much as the bigger companies and I wanted to do my part and shoutout these smaller companies and help get their name out there because what they’re doing is really awesome!

For today we’ll focus on Eco Beauty Crew. I’m going to be honest and say I didn’t know about this brand until a few weeks ago when I saw it on Instagram. I usually browse through Instagram looking for vegan friendly makeup brands and Eco Beauty Crew stood out to me not only because it had vegan and vegetarian options but because the were so into making their brand environmentally friendly too! They literally only package their orders using earth-friendly, recyclable and bio-degradable packaging materials. I thought that was really awesome!

Eco Beauty Crew products are pretty affordable for organic vegan products (we all know those are usually crazy expensive…) and you get free shipping if the order is above £30! They say that they hand select all their brands for their natural, organic and ethically sourced ingredients, and source exceptional products that are produced in an eco-friendly, sustainable way. Their vegan products of course don’t only consist of makeup but also include body, sun care, hair, nail, teeth and fragrance products.

So if you’re interested in buying some beauty products why not try out Eco Beauty Crew. Try it out and see if you like them at least you’ll be making a difference!

My 7 Favourite Drugstore Beauty Products

E.l.F BB Cream- This is probably the best BB Cream I’ve ever used. It’s super easy to use and has amazing coverage too. Plus, my skin is on the dryer side and this is perfect for that kind of skin because it’s super moisturizing and doesn’t look flaky!

E.L.F Lip Balms- When I bought these honestly they were on sale and I was like it’s a good price might as well try them out. But over time these have become one of my favourite E.L.F products ever. Like I honestly sometimes just wear the pink lipbalm before I go out along with the BB Cream and it’s perfect for a natural look. All the lip balms are super hydrating and smell really nice although they do not last more than an hour or so. I usually pair them with a similar coloured matte lipstick for a different effect and to last longer if I’m going somewhere fancy.

NYX Matte Lipstick- This is probably also something I use almost on an everyday basis. It’s perfect paired with the pink E.L.F lip balm if you don’t want it to be too matte or on it’s own if you want that really matte effect. I have kind of dry lips so I don’t love these lipsticks on their own but they’re absolutely perfect for me with some lip balm.

Sleek Contour KitThis is my go-to contour kit. The bronzer is really easy to blend in and the highlighter is not too crazy but bright enough that it does a good job highlighting. This is perfect if you’re a starter or aren’t the best at contouring and don’t want to look insane!

Maybelline ‘Fit Me!’ Poreless Foundation- Okay, honestly there is nothing that could make me hate this foundation. It has crazy coverage (I usually only have to use a few drops) and it’s super easy to blend. I also found the perfect shade for my skin which is awesome because usually the foundations that are close to my skin tone look kind of orange and I hate that. It also comes in matte and normal so you can pick whichever you prefer. I wouldn’t recommend the matte foundations if you have dry skin of blemishes because it tends to show it more.

Maybelline Falsies Mascara- This is another one of those things I use almost daily. Mascara can really make or break your look and it’s seriously a gamechanger. This one is really easy to put on and it makes you look like you’re wearing false lashes even when you’re not. This is honestly, the best mascara I’ve used so far although I have been meaning to try some new ones so let’s see!

Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer- This is honestly the only concealer I’ve found so far that’s perfect for my skin tone and has amazing coverage. I have quite a few concealers some on the expensive side too and none of them compare to this one.

My 5 Favorite Matte Lipsticks!

  1. Kat Von D– I’m going to start out by saying that Kat Von D is kind of pricey however her everlasting liquid lipsticks are the greatest lipsticks I’ve ever used. Nothing else has ever compared and if it wasn’t for the fact that they are pretty expensive I would have all of them! They feel so light like you’re not even wearing any lipstick and they stay on no matter what! Seriously, the world could end and your lipstick would still be on fleek. My favourite shade so far has been Lolita I.
  2. E.L.FThese are so affordable and really great to use! No they won’t stay on for the whole day and you’ll probably need to reapply them every hour or so but they are still really great if you’re on a budget and need some good matte lipsticks. The quality is really good and the colours are super cute!
  3. Huda– Again her lipsticks are on the pricey side but they are so worth it because they look absolutely amazing and stay on for at least a few hours depending on what you’ll be doing! The colours are amazing and her lip sets come with a liner too which makes it so much easier to contour your lips!
  4. Sleek– their matte lipsticks are my second favourite to wear when I’m going to be eating or drinking because they too tend to stay. Not as great as Kat Von D but a much more affordable alternative with pretty similar results. They have a really great variety of shades too!
  5. NYX– NYX are another more affordable brand on the list and they’re great if you’re on a budget. In all honesty I don’t own a lot of NYX lipsticks but the ones that I do have are absolutely amazing! No they won’t last forever but they are really cute and they’re not the annoying dry matte so they don’t make your lips look super dry. Also you can always reapply them.
