5 Ways To Save Money While In University

When I first started university I had no idea just how expensive it would be. Everyone talks about how expensive the tuition fees are but in reality that’s just the tip of the iceberg. In fact, if you don’t make an effort to try to keep your expenses low it’s easy to end up spending way over budget. Here are some ways I found to help keep living costs down:

Meals

Even though it sounds really tempting to eat out as much as you can since university can be overwhelming and leaves little time for cooking it can also be very expensive to do so. Instead of eating out all the time or ordering in, try things like meal planning. You can keep your ingredients ready or make more food and freeze some for later. This will save both your time and money.

Buy in bulk

Although some things get spoilt/expired if kept for too long a lot of things that we use on a daily basis don’t. If you know there are certain items that you will be using regularly make sure to buy them in bulk such as toilet paper, tissue paper, water bottles etc.

Transportation

Whether it’s paying for gas, an Uber or a Taxi, transportation can be expensive but there are a few ways to travel without actually paying too much for it! For example, check out your bus timings because using the bus instead of using your car can really save a lot of money(plus it’s way better for the environment!)

Living expenses

Living expenses can end up being really expensive especially while you’re still a student. However, because you’re a student many people do offer student discounts so remember to ask them if they offer this before paying for something. Plus, try to keep living expenses low by shutting off lights when you’re not using them or getting a roommate to split the expenses with.

Used items

Universities often expect you to buy a lot of things such as textbooks which are not affordable whatsoever! However, getting used items can really keep the cost at a minimal. A lot of universities do sell used textbooks and other used items so be sure to check these out before actually buying something new.

3 Quick Ways For Introverts To Increase Their Income

Quietly Ambitious

So, you’re an introvert who’s in need of extra income. The only problem is that you already work in an energy draining role and you can’t imagine taking on anymore work. The thought of doing sales calls in your own time seems like a nightmare! After a long day of fake smiling and endless meetings you would much rather just curl up in a ball with your favourite book.

However, there are some quick ways introverts can increase their income with little energy! And these ways are quite simple!

But first, why should you even bother with getting extra income

Seven streams of income

Apparently, we should all have additional streams of income. Seven to be exact (correct me if I’m wrong!). We shouldn’t rely on one stream of income. For example, if you’re employed, you shouldn’t just rely on your monthly pay cheque. It’s a risk many of us…

How To Get More Followers On Instagram For Free

I recently started using Instagram and picked up on some ways on how to get more followers and I thought I would share it with you guys!

Be Active- try to make sure you like, follow and repost others posts as well as leave positive comments. This will help people notice your page and more people are likely to follow it.

Image result for instagram gif

Post Regularly- If you’ve been on Instagram for a while you know that even if you don’t post for a day you’ll start losing followers so try to post as regularly as possible to avoid losing followers and gaining more on a regular basis.

Don’t follow to unfollow- Seriously everyone hates those people that follow and and unfollow people on Instagram. Most people have apps to get rid of unfollowers anyway so it’s really not going to help you plus it’s just a crappy thing to do and people will not only unfollow you back but probably end up blocking you.

Tags- Make sure to use a good amount of both popular and less popular tags to attract more people to your page. You can find the tags on Google but make sure you use tags that are relevant to your post and not just random.

Be Genuine- Post about things you genuinely like and want to post about instead of posting about something everyone else is posting about. Sometimes it’s really helpful to be unique and different and it will actually attract more people to your page. Plus, people can tell when you’re passionate about something and it will make them appreciate your posts more.

Getting A Job At Uni: My Top Tips!

Working while at university is harder then it seems so here are a few very helpful tips to help you find a job!

Abi Louise Allen

A longer post today focusing on what so many students worry about…

I think we all know university can be a huge financial struggle for a lot of people, some people only get a small loan that doesn’t cover their rent, some get no loan and others are not in a position to borrow money when needed. So, for many people getting a job is a necessity while studying.

For me, my loan unfortunately only covers half my annual rent total and all the money I saved working over summer just wouldn’t be enough to cover 6 months rent, food money, social money and transport and therefore, I had to find a job.

Whilst most universities are based in cities, and you’d think finding a job because of this would be easy, for students this just isn’t the case, for many businesses aren’t willing to…

3 Tips To Study Effectively For Your Exams

Now that exams are almost here I thought I’d share this with you guys! It definitely has some very helpful tips!

5 Ways To Make Your Blog Look More Professional

You do not need to necessarily have a super professional looking blog but it would help increase both traffic and followers. It would also help if you are thinking of attracting sponsors or working with other blogs as more companies are likely to work with you if you have a very professional looking blog. Anyway, here are some tips that might help you out

1. Edit- One of the first things people tend to notice is whether or not your post has been edited. It may not seem like a big deal and it may seem like your writing is fine but a lot of times when you reread your post you will find little mistakes you didn’t even realize you had made. Make sure to read through it at least once to check for spelling errors and grammar mistakes. A well edited post shows the reader that you have put a lot of work and effort into it and looks really professional.

2. Use High Quality Pictures- To make your posts seem more professional be sure to use high quality images.  It looks much more professional and you’ll be more likely to get sponsors or companies that want to work with you.

3. Create Social Media Pages- Advertise your blog on social media. Most professional blogs do tend to have social media pages such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. Another really great place to create a profile on is LinkedIn. Here you can broaden your professional connections and also find jobs.

4. Organize Your Blog- If you want your blog to look professional you have to make sure it is well organised. Make sure it has specific categories and tags the reader can use to find specific posts.

5. Sound Professional- This sounds a little obvious but try to sound professional by doing things such as avoiding too many contractions. I am totally guilty of breaking this rule and I tend to use contractions a lot but this is where editing comes in. When you reread your post make sure to get rid of any contractions that are unnecessary or anything that doesn’t sound professional.

From Blog 2.0 To Money Site – How To Monetize A Web (Guest Post)

From Give it a Spin

We are going to talk about that step that turns our blog into a whole money site. Since we are talking about a money site and not a blog that allows us to vent on our hobby every weekend, we have to think about what our future source of income will be.

Monetizing a blog is not as easy as some people think. In many cases it comes unintentionally, you have a quality project and a company is interested in you …

Why is monetization important?

  • Costs of maintaining a blog such as hosting, domain, payment plugins, images…
  • Hours of work of the blogger. Training, writing, content promotion, creation of images…
  • Copywriters or professionals who collaborate sporadically.
  • Costs of external services, such as SEO or web design, digital marketing, advertising…

For these reasons and especially because everyone who works deserves a reward for their work, it will be necessary to monetize a blog. It is important to be clear about the difference between “monetizing a blog” and “getting rich with a blog”, they are very different things.

Can all the blogs be monetized?

No.

The first thing to know is that a blog always starts with losses (without visits there is no advertising but costs). To know that the time has come to monetize your blog you have to get a monthly number of visits between 30,000 and 50,000. Afterwards, manage to maintain it. An objective that belongs to the digital marketing team in many marketing agencies.

Symptoms that tell us about when a blog can be monetized

1. Traffic to the website. Let it be enough and continued in time.

2. Ensure the update of the page in the medium term.

3. Have a series of loyal followers, who read us always, no matter what happens.

4. Have a good organic position (SEO) for the keywords that interest us (which give money go).

5. THAT IT IS A USEFUL BLOG. The most important without a doubt.

How is a blog monetized?

There are many ways to monetize a blog. Let’s see some examples of how to sell or monetize a blog:

Google Adsense

It is the best known way to monetize a blog. Part of the basis that a greater number of visits higher income. To me the experience tells me that for a personal blog it is not the best formula.

Sale of products or services

Selling a product or service on a relevant and already positioned website is a great way to get money. However, this is one of the most complex options to achieve in the short term. To get to sell something on our site we need more than time and dedication. Here we could talk about:

1- Drop Shipping: It is a type of sale in which the retailer does not store the orders, simply acts as an intermediary with the wholesaler. Let’s say you “pass the order”. Very interesting today.

2- Training courses.

3- Events.

4- Webinars: In short, it is something like offering online conferences.

Affiliation with brands

We recommend certain products to visitors to the site, and if they buy the product through a link on our website or through a cookie that has been inserted into your computer, we will obtain a percentage on the purchase. Here the interesting thing is to know which keywords offer the most money …

Infolinks

System that allows inserting advertising links in some keywords of the page.

Payment content

With tools like Shoplocket to sell your products.

1- Templates

2- WhitePapers

3- E-Books

4- Podcast

Advertising banners

That we locate in the “hot” places of the web or the blog.

Consulting sale

Professionals that offer their low cost services and online.

Agreements with advertising platforms for bloggers

As for example E-Buzzing, Adlemons, Bloguzz, …

5 Things To Always Have In Your Carry-On

I’ve been travelling a lot lately and I’ve noticed that there are some things that you just absolutely need to carry with you- and no I learned the hard way that these do not include all 7 Harry Potter books…

Image result for hand sanitizer and tissues

1. Hand sanitizer and tissues- Let’s be honest, travelling isn’t the most hygienic thing ever and it’s a really good idea to have some sanitizer and tissues with you because you never know when you’ll need them. Plus, it’s always a good idea to sanitize your hands before eating something even if you are using cutlery.

Image result for clothes packed

2. An extra pair of clothes- In case, and this is the worst case scenario, you end up losing your luggage or exchanging it by mistake or it comes later on it’s good to have a fresh pair of clothes with you because you will want to freshen up after your journey.

Image result for mobile

3. Your cellphone– Our lives revolve around technology these days and your cellphone is probably the most important one of all. It has all your information, contacts etc and you do not want to end up losing it so always keep it with you. Plus, you never know when you might need it!

Image result for headphones

4. Headphones- This is just in case you end up sitting next to someone a little too friendly. Also listening to music is a good distraction if you get travel anxiety.

Image result for makeup bag

5. Makeup- You are at some point going to need a touch up so remember to carry some makeup products with you. Not all your makeup of course but just the 5/6 items you are likely to use that day. If you don’t wear makeup carry some moisturizer because your skin can really dry out during a long journey!

How To Find The Perfect Name For Your Blog

When I first started blogging it took me like a month to come up with a good name for the blog. I didn’t even know exactly what I wanted to write about so I didn’t know how exactly to come up with a good name. Anyway, here’s a few tips to help you find the perfect name for your blog!

  1. Topics and niches- If you are sure about what you’re going to be writing about you may want to add something about it in your title. For example, if you are writing about cooking you can have food/recipes/foodie on your title to let your audience know what the blog is about. If you’re not sure what you want to write about (which is totally okay!) or you want to write about multiple topics (which again is totally okay!) then try finding a name that is catchy but doesn’t have any specific topics in the name like lifesfinewhine… 😂😉
  2. Google- Google is definitely your best friend when it comes to finding a domain name! The truth is when you start out you really don’t know much about blogging and blog names so try Google popular blog names to give you an idea of what to call yours! Again if you know what topic/s you’re going to be writing on, Google blogs on that topic/s and get some inspiration from their names!
  3. Talk to others- Talk to people around you and ask them for ideas! Even if they’re not directly involved with your blog I’m sure they’ll be happy to help and may actually have some really great ideas!
  4. Be unique and creative- I know I just said to get inspired by other blogs but remember not to steal their name or use something super similar! Use something unique so that people can remember it and it’s the first thing that comes up when people Google it.
  5. Name generating sites- If you still can’t come up with a name there are lots of sites online that will help you find a name for free so be sure to check them out!

How To Relax

I know this is a bit of a random “how-to” but the truth is that our lives have become so fast and we’re so used to doing something that we have kind of forgotten how to relax and do nothing for a while. We’re always stressed about something or the other and we’re constantly thinking of the future instead of concentrating on the present. Our brain is always switched on no matter what and sometimes we just need to turn it off for a while. Here are some things you can do to relax your mind and just switch off your brain for a bit!

Yoga– If you’re a beginner in yoga try some super easy beginner poses and if you’re used to doing yoga try out some harder poses that help you relax. There are lots of specific poses that are there to help you calm down and feel at ease. Yoga definitely helps keep your mind off everything that’s stressing you out and it makes you physically and psychologically healthier!

Meditation– I’m not going to lie, this is much harder than most people think. Meditation is great but you need some practice before you learn to not let your mind drift. However once you learn how to do it right it’s a great way to switch off your brain and just relax.

Watch TV– TV is always a great way to take it easy and relax! It helps distract your mind for a while from life! I would recommend watching something intense so you’re really into it.

Hobbies- Instead of stressing out or letting your brain run free do something you enjoy doing like cooking, makeup, reading, playing an instrument etc. It’s always a good distraction and a great opportunity to take some time off from your schedule and do something for yourself that you like!

Eat- Honestly, there is no problem food can’t solve! If you’re on a diet have a delicious salad with extra dressing and if not I would recommend stuffing your face with pizza (that always works for me). Food helps you forget about your problems and concentrate on the present.
