5 Mistakes Bloggers Should Never Make

If you’re a blogger and especially if you’re starting out chances are you may not have even realised you are making these mistakes. Here are five things you should definitely avoid doing.

Not being active– If you are not active on other peoples blog than you can’t expect them to be active on yours. Blogging is definitely a two way street and being active can get you a much larger audience as well as followers. If you’re not active your blog will take longer to grow.

Commenting– As I mentioned be active but don’t spam people with comments that have nothing to do with their comments. A lot of new bloggers end up leaving their link on other peoples posts and it really does not help to do that because it can get a little annoying especially when you do it constantly. Instead leave genuine comments about the post and that will be more likely to lead them back to your blog. If you do want to share your blog you can check if they have a share and promote page which would be the appropriate place to leave your link.

Tags– As I always say tags are super duper important! Make sure you don’t overdo it with the tags though because WordPress will assume you’re spamming and leave your post out of the recommended tags section. I’ve realised that the perfect amount is ten but take a look at what works for you and tag accordingly.

Copying posts/not giving credit to the source– This is a huge no. Don’t ever do this. It is horrible to take credit for another bloggers work. If you are inspired by it and want to share it there is always the option to repost/reblog the original post or if you decide to copy and paste make sure you have the bloggers permission and give them credit for their work.

Spamming followers with posts- It’s great to post regularly but honestly the majority of your followers probably don’t want to see like 20 posts from you everyday. I would suggest don’t post more than once a day and definitely don’t post more than once an hour. You may end up getting traffic/followers for a while because you’re in the algorithm but it will mess up your blog on the long run and decrease activity.

How To Make Your Posts More Interesting

Catchy titles– The title is the first thing your reader is going to read and you don’t want to lose them so make sure you use a catchy title that will make them read further on. Please don’t use annoying puns that are not funny because that’s just annoying…

Images/GIF’s– using images and gif’s on your post are the best way to spice them up and keep the reader interested. Images/gif’s are a great way to keep your article light and increase engagement.

Popular topics- Even though it is totally okay to write about more unique topics it would help to write about popular topics if you are interested in increasing your traffic/followers. They tend to get way more traffic especially if you’re using the right tags.

Don’t try too hard– it’s totally okay to try and do your best but sometimes overthinking your post shows in your post. A lot of people don’t want to read something that overdone or has too many details because a lot of people prefer short, precise and direct posts so try to keep it short and to the point.

The Art of Blogging

Some of the folks who offer “blogging advice” seem to be focusing on what you shouldn’t do instead of offering advice on what to do. Perhaps this is a more effective way to get certain points across?

When I started out I had no idea how to get more traffic or followers and it was kind of a tough learning process. I actually almost gave up on my blog and if it hadn’t been for those two followers I had I may have actually given up on blogging altogether which is a scary thought! But thankfully I kept blogging and I eventually started gaining followers and got more traffic. Here are some of the ways I did that:

Reach Out- If you want other bloggers to view your posts and leave you likes, comments and follows you should be doing the same! How To Get More Followers On Your Blog For Free

Especially if you’re just starting out it’s a good idea to check out other peoples blogs- not only will you learn new things from them you’ll also start getting your own name out there. It helps to leave comments because then they’ll notice you and most likely check out your blog as well. However, make sure you don’t just like posts for the sake of it and you don’t just follow random people for follow backs because it’s important to be authentic and get real followers who will engage.

Be Regular- It’s so important to post regularly because your traffic and number of followers will drop as soon as you stop posting regularly. And if you post regularly you’ll notice a rise in likes and followers. I learnt that the hard way because I spent a long time posting randomly and not getting a lot of follows/likes but as soon as I started posting regularly I was like “OMG”.

Tags Are Important- Make sure to Google before you post to see what the most viewed tags on WordPress and most Goggled words are so you can add some of the relevant ones to the tags on your post. But don’t add random irrelevant tags because honestly that’s just annoying.

What’s your niche?- Make sure to like and follow bloggers who write about the same or similar topic/topics because they are way more likely to follow you back. Also search some relevant tags on your reader to find similar blogs!

Keep It Real- Keep your writing honest because people can tell when you’re being fake or lying and no one really wants to read a blog like that. People will appreciate your writing more if it’s honest and you’re not afraid to express your opinions and they’ll be more likely to give you a follow!

Have Fun With It!- Honestly, don’t stress out too much about followers and likes because at the end of the day you should enjoy what you do and if you write just for the likes/follows it will kind of suck the fun out of blogging.
