I decided to join because firstly I wanted to share my blog posts on it and secondly I thought it would be fun to share a bit more of my life and what I’m doing because as much as I try to share on my blog I can’t really share everything I do every 20 seconds because that would be weird and slightly annoying but totally normal on Instagram! 😂

I also wanted to sort of make more memories and I thought this would give me more incentive to go out more often and also try new things. It also help me kind of document my life and this way I have pictures/videos to look back at and remember stuff and smile!

I am also planning on sharing vegan and vegetarian recipes as well as some posts about makeup (like tips and my favourite brands) because I feel like Instagram would be better for that then my blog.

Top 5 Must-Watch TV Series by the End of This Summer (Guest Post)

Seeing as most of the action has been taken off the big screen and into our TV devices, it’s only natural that there are so many great shows out there to watch. So, instead of spending your summer checking what famous people on Snapchat are doing every day, why not binge-watch one (or more) of these awesome shows?

1. Game of Thrones

Yes, we are fully aware that the latest season of Game of Thrones is nearly over, however, that doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to remind yourself of the good, old times when Sean Bean and Jason Momoa were still on the show.

The epic fantasy show has been running since 2011, with its second to last season broadcasting the final episode on August 27. HBO really outdid itself with this one, because it turned a somewhat well-known series of books into a global phenomenon full of sex, violence and freaking dragons we all know and love.

2. Rick and Morty

It may seem like a silly kid’s show, but it’s nothing of the sort – Rick and Morty follows the titular characters, a super-smart scientist and his not-so-smart grandson on their dark and hilarious adventures through many ridiculous scenarios.

This Adultswim animated show is currently airing its third season with four more episodes left. With Justin Roiland voicing both of the series’ main characters, you’re bound for one hell of a ride with this show

3. The Man in the High Castle

When it comes to alternative history, no TV show comes close to the Amazon Original The Man in the High Castle. Instead of the Allied Forces winning WWI, this show depicts an alternate North America that lost the war to the Nazis.

Season 2 of this show aired in December 2016, while its third season is yet to come to our small screens this year. That’s exactly why you should catch up to the story that features actors like Alexa Davalos, Rupert Evans, Luke Kleintank, DJ Qualls, and more.

4. Ozark

If you liked Breaking Bad, you’ll simply love Ozark. Imagine not only Walter White, but his whole family being in on the criminal activity whilst trying to avoid being murdered by a drug cartel – this pretty much sums up the plot of Ozark.

It just began airing this year with the finale of season 1 hitting our TVs in late July. Jason Bateman and Laura Linney are the main stars of this Netflix masterpiece, which means you absolutely have to binge-watch it while it’s fresh.

5. Lucifer

God, devil, religion – all of these are rather controversial topics, unless you hand them over to Fox and let them make a TV show about it. Lucifer tells the story of, well, Lucifer, who decided to quit ruling Hell by moving to Los Angeles on opening a night club.

The show is packed with amazing humour mostly coming from Tom Ellis, who plays the lead role, but it also features incredible acting and some awesome action scenes. Season 2 ended in late May this year, so better get on with binge-watching this masterpiece before the next season hits in October.

My Favorite Books Of 2015

*Warning: May Contain Spoilers*

This year I have tried to do a lot of new things (like start blogging) and so I tried to read more books than I usually do. I tried to read at least one book a week and these are some of my favorite books I have read this year in no particular order.

Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Leuithan

“You can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose, but you can’t pick your friends nose”

I read this book pretty recently and absolutely fell in love with it. Honestly everything John Green does is pure genius but in this book David Leuithan adds his own spin to the story which makes it even better. This is probably my favorite YA book. Not only is it very relatable and down-to-earth it also brings out a lot of important issues we all need to deal with. It revolves around two teenagers both called Will Grayson and an openly gay friend Tiny Cooper. The two Will’s accidently bump into each other one night and the second Will Grayson who is gay ends up having a deep connection with Tiny Cooper. From there the story progresses and involves a lot of drama, singing, acting, whining and bickering (and that’s just the first Will Grayson!). The first Will Grayson’s parts are written by John Green. He is whiny, mildly irritating, pessimistic and needy. The second Will Grayson’s parts are written by David Leuithan. He is depressed, also pessimistic, gay, an introvert and cynical. I would highly recommend that you read this book. I’ve also written a review on this book that you can check out here.

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

“One could not count the moons that shimmer on her roofs, or the thousand splendid suns that hide behind her walls”

This touching book is truly incredible. It revolves around the life of two Afghanistani women who come from different backgrounds but wind up suffering the same fate. It begins with Mariam who is under sad circumstances forced to marry a man more than twice her age when she herself is only a young teenager. The same happens to Laila and she is coincidently forced to marry the same man a few years later. He is abusive and savage and makes their life an absolute living hell however after going through so much together Laila and Mariam form a special bond that brings them together as they start to plot to do the impossible- escape their husband. Their past often comes back to haunt them all through the book. This book also gives us an insight on the life lived in Afghanistan in the latter half of the twentieth century.

Paper Towns by John Green

“It is so hard to leave until you leave. And then it is the easiest goddamned thing in the world”

John Green is definitely one of my favorite writers mainly because I can always relate to his characters. Paper Towns is pretty dark but at the same time it is really realistic and relatable. It revolves around a teenager called Quentin and his crush Margo. When they were young they were really good friends but eventually they grew apart and Margo grew up to be very popular but completely unhappy with her life and Quentin grew up to be an average teenager who was okay with how his life was going. However, everything changes one night when Margo takes Quentin on an adventure than completely disappears. Quentin thinks she wants him to find her and in doing so he learns more about himself and her than he ever thought possible and he starts wanting and doing things he never knew he could. This book is both engaging and amusing at the same time. If you want to read more about this book I have written a full review that you can read here.

An Abundance Of Katherine’s by John Green

“What is the point of being alive if you don’t at least try to do something remarkable?”

As you can tell I’m pretty much obsessed with John Green’s books right now so obviously I needed to add this one to the list too. Unlike most of Green’s books this one is lighter and more amusing than anything else. The main character, a teenager called Colin only dates girls called Katherine starting with the letter K. His life seems to be going downhill as his girlfriend breaks up with him so he goes on a road trip with his overly optimistic best friend Hassan. On the way he thinks about what he wants to do with his life and learns how to deal with not being perfect or a genius. On the way he meets Lindsay who has some issues of her own and together they begin to learn about life and its meaning.

A Game Of Thrones by George R. R. Martin

“Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor and it can never be used to hurt you.”

So I finally began reading George R. R. Martin’s series of A Song Of Fire And Ice and I had to add this book to the list. So the story revolves around the Stark’s, Baratheon’s, Lannister’s and Daenerys Targaryen. When Ned becomes Hand to King Robert Baratheon he discovers dark secrets that are being kept in the palace and his learning the truth may just end up destroying his entire family. On the other hand, Daenerys is married off by her psychotic brother to Khal Drago and at first she is miserable but soon she learns to embrace her new life and even begins enjoying it. The best part about reading all this is you get so much inside information the TV show doesn’t offer. I mean I love the show but the book is definitely more detailed and in-depth in comparison. This series of books are amazing and you should definitely read them especially if you’re a fan of the TV show. You can also read my full review of this book here.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

“She was one of the few souls that made me wonder what it was to live”

I think this is my favorite book of all time. It is really unique in the sense that it is narrated by none other than death himself. It is absolutely amazing and has brought out so many feelings! It is set in Nazi Germany and revolves around a young girl called Liesel. Her parents who were communists left her with the Hubermann’s to keep her safe. She soon becomes friends with Rudy Steiner her neighbor and they go on lots of adventures together and eventually end up being very close. She also grows close to her gentle hearted and caring step-father Hans Hubermann and her short-tempered but loving step-mother Rosa Hubermann. This story is a rollercoaster of emotions but it’s worth it. It also gives a great insight on the life of Germans during the rule of the Nazi’s and the Second World War. If you want to read my full review on the book you can read it here.

Book Review: A Game Of Thrones

*Warning: Contains Spoilers*

Recently I began reading George R. R. Martin’s A Game Of Thrones which is the first book from his A Song Of Fire And Ice series. When it comes to the fantasy genre I must admit I am not always a huge fan and I am hardly ever impressed but this book is truly amazing.

Like most people who enjoy reading (and as a self-proclaimed bibliophile) I almost always prefer reading the books rather than watching the show/movie however for some reason (peer pressure- you know who you are…) I decided to watch the show first because honestly with school and everything going on at the time I didn’t have time to read the book. Everyone seemed super obsessed with the show though so I started watching it around the time when season 5 got over and tried my best to avoid spoilers. I have been totally obsessed with Game Of Thrones since then and since we still have to wait for a while before the next season I decided to start reading the books.

To imagine the setting in this book one must imagine an old-fashioned, misogynistic and corrupt world where seasons last for years and people die at the blink of an eye. The Seven Kingdoms are ruled by the incompetent King Robert who couldn’t care less about it and almost everyone around him seems to have their own selfish reasons for being there. Everyone who tries to fight for justice and what’s right seems to gain nothing much except a painful death. Also, most characters seem to be fighting for their “rightful” claim to the Iron Throne and are ready to hurt and destroy everyone in their path to gain it. Plus it includes a bunch of magical and mythical creatures too! There are of course Daenerys’s dragons and we can’t forget the White Walkers who are almost entirely indestructible.

The book is very similar to the show and the events are very similar if not the same. It begins just like the show too. However, the book brings to it a depth that cannot be shown on TV. It tells us background stories with far more details, it gives us more information about the characters and their ties with one another and most importantly it gives us a look into the thoughts and feelings of the characters. This is especially important in the case of characters such as Bran where he doesn’t really talk much and almost everything about his character involves his thoughts and mind.

Another character who I loved learning more about was Khaleesi. The book really helps explain her character more and I really enjoyed that. Also, Tyrion Lannister’s thoughts are just as funny and intriguing as his words. The book just makes me love him even more. I would have loved to read a little more about the thoughts of other characters such as Cersei, King Robert and perhaps even Joffrey but I’ll take what I can get.

In the story, Ned accepts King Roberts offer to become Hand to the King (not that he had much of a choice) but soon he starts digging up some secrets and learns about things certain people (cough… the Lannister’s… cough…) would prefer to be kept quiet. Being a fair and just person he seems to always try to do the right thing but in a place like Westeros that is the most dangerous thing someone can try to do. Things soon begin to heat up and the ending will leave you shocked (unless like me you have seen the show and know what happens).

Meanwhile, Daenerys is at first unhappily married (sold off) to Khal Drago the ruler of the Dothraki by her brother Viserys but soon she begins to embrace their barbaric way of life and finds that she fits in with the Dorthraki better than she could have ever imagined. Her fascination for the dragon eggs given to her as a wedding gift grows and she seems strangely obsessed with them which will all lead to the end of the book where she emerges from flames cradling three baby dragons- the first living dragons seen in hundreds of years.

In conclusion, I believe everyone should read the entire series of A Song Of Fire And Ice at least once and especially if you’re a fan of the TV show. I really enjoyed the first book and am definitely going to read the other five too.

“Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like an armor, and it can never be used to hurt you.” – Tyrion Lannister

Throner Problems

*Warning: Contains Spoilers*

Game Of Thrones may be the greatest show I have ever watched. When I watched the first episode (and made the mistake of liking Eddard Stark) I was a little taken aback because believe me there is no one in the world that can prepare you for Game Of Thrones. But at the same time I felt this unexplainable need to binge watch it for the rest of the day. I actually only began watching it a few months ago but I binge watched and finished all 5 seasons in about a month.

“There’s a beast in every man and it stirs when you put a sword in his hand”

But as we have learnt from Game Of Thrones, all good things come with a price. Here are some problems that all throners (I like to call Game Of Throne fans that!) know too well:

  1. You’re always afraid to get attached- From the moment you see Ned Stark beheaded you promise yourself “never again.” Never again will you let yourself get so attached to a character again- and especially not a Stark. But you can’t help it. Deep down you know you will always respect Arya and grow to admire Khaleesi and Tyrion even though they may be at any random moment killed or more likely severely tortured and then killed. And you have to admit you were rooting for Rob Stark… and then the “Red Wedding” happened (why???) It is quite saddening to know that you can never truly grow attached to a character because they will probably soon die a horrible death (probably at the hands of a Lannister). Although I am not going to complain about King Joffrey’s death (I watched that scene quite a few times with sheer joy).

2.  Simultaneously loving and hating characters- As much as the Lannister’s are snide, arrogant, sadistic and twisted (except Tyrion of course) they are still extremely entertaining and you do have to give them credit. Tywin was one of the smartest men in this show and that is why he survived as long as he did and was able to acquire that much wealth and power. Cersei and Jamie are of course a very interesting duo (*cough incest cough*) but as evil as Cersei may be she does love her children (even the sadistic psychopathic one) and was truly devastated when Joffrey died (perhaps she was the only one who actually mourned him). Lord Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish is another confusing character that just messes with your head. On one hand you will always hate him for his betrayal to the Starks but on the other hand he did save Sansa (only to marry her off to Ramsey!). He’s conniving and disloyal but he is also sharp and always one step ahead (which living in a place like Westeros you have to be). Even King Joffrey grows on you at some point and you begin to miss him after a while (there I said it!)

3.  Spoilers- Yes we get it, you’ve read the books and know more than we do but that doesn’t mean you post about it on every possible site you can find! Avoiding spoilers is like living on an island and trying not to get wet. Everywhere you go there are people commenting and talking about things we don’t know about yet and it is super annoying. At least warn us first so we don’t read it.

4.  Khaleesi- Don’t get me wrong, Khaleesi is great, but sometimes she does tend to get on my nerves. To begin with, is she ever going to get to Westeros in this century? Honestly she is taking forever and as much as I like to watch her grow and succeed her character needs to start making its way to the main storyline. Furthermore, she definitely isn’t ready for the power she desires and I don’t think she can handle the throne because she might just crack under all the pressure and become just like her father. We have definitely seen hints of her cruelty like when she nailed the slave masters to the signposts without differentiating between the guilty and the relatively innocent (like Hizdahr zo Loraq’s father). This wouldn’t be the first time a Targaryen has ordered mass punishment. In addition to this, how does she expect to rule over The Seven Kingdoms when she can’t even rule over Meereen. Plus, her dragons are out of control.

5.  Non-throners- For me there are two different types of people in the world: throners and non-throners. And it’s not that I don’t like people who aren’t fans of GoT, it’s just that sometimes it makes life a lot more difficult for us. For one, they don’t get inside jokes or phrases like “you know nothing Jon Snow” and apparently they don’t get insulted when you compare them to King Joffrey (which is annoying because that’s the worst insult I can think of). They also often say things like “is that the show with the boobs and dragons” when in reality it is a complicated woven tapestry of politics, relationships, family, mythical creatures and more. Other irking phrases they use include “is she the white haired girl?” (it’s silver!) and “cut off his what??” You cannot talk to them about the new exciting things that just happened or who died and how, you can’t exchange theories about who Jon Snow’s parents are or what happened to Arya. This can be quite disappointing.

“Once you’ve accepted your flaws, no one can use them against you”

Even though there are all these cons of GoT the important thing to remember is that it is still incomparable and the pros far outweigh the cons. I can absolutely not wait for the next season! I mean what happened to Arya and Khaleesi and Jon Snow.
