How I Started Blogging

Well I had always loved writing and new that I wanted to write and one of my friends started a blog so I thought I would too because that would be the perfect way to start out and get better at writing as well as build an audience for my work.

Advice For New Bloggers
  1. Don’t give up- I know it’s slow when you start out and it’s hard to get views/likes/follows but if you put effort into it and keep posting regularly and stay active it will be worth it and your blog will grow.
  2. I’ve noticed a lot of bloggers these days, especially new ones, leave their links on the comments sections of other peoples posts- trust me you don’t want to do this. It’s super annoying and instead of giving you more traffic people are going to get pissed off and avoid you on purpose. Instead look for blogs that have a share and promote page and leave your link there.

4 Things You Need To Have The Perfect Blog Post

Topic- Your topic is one of the most important things about your blog post. It doesn’t matter how much of an amazing writer you are if your topic isn’t something people want to read about. If you are looking to increase followers and traffic I would suggest looking into what topics are the most popular and writing on those. Not to say other topics aren’t great if you can pull it off feel free to write about unique topics. However, statistically already popular topics are much more likely to get you more traffic and followers.

Title- The title will decide whether or not someone will click on your post so make sure the title is catchy and will make the reader click. How-To’s and lists are usually very popular. However, don’t lie in your title because click baits are annoying and will probably make people unfollow you.

Introduction- The introduction is also very important because a lot of people don’t read past it if it’s not interesting enough. Make sure it precise and well edited so there are no spelling or grammar mistakes because this can be a huge turn off to readers.

Conclusion- A lot of people seem to skip this but I think including a conclusion is a really great way to summarize your post and let the reader know what your concluding arguments/thoughts.opinions are. Plus if you have a great conclusion you are much more likely to get likes/follows.

How To Write The Perfect About Me Page

For a sample of an About Me page check out mine by clicking here.

Introduce yourself- Be sure to introduce who you are and why you began the blog. You can tell the reader a little bit more about yourself and your life as well. If you want the blog to be anonymous you can share why you would like to keep it anonymous as well as what motivated you to start the blog.

Image result for hello gif

Tell the reader what to expect from your blog- The reader probably at this point wants to know more about your blog and what they will expect to read/see on it so be sure to let them know what topics you plan to write about. If you aren’t sure exactly what topics you will write on give them an idea of what to expect but be sure to explain that you’ll write about other things as well. Don’t worry too much about being accurate about this because you can always come back and edit this page once you are more sure about what you’ll be writing about.

Image result for what to expect gif

Tell the reader more about your hobbies and interests- The reason someone clicked on your About Me page is because they want to know more about you so be sure to share your interests and things you like (or don’t like!). If your blog is anonymous maybe you can share a few things you don’t mind sharing or skip this part altogether.

Image result for hobbies and interests gif

Be precise- It’s easy to ramble on when you’re making this kind of a page (I had to do multiple edits on mine!) so try to edit out the unnecessary stuff and stick to introducing yourself, talking about your interests and what to expect from the blog.

Share your social media pages or email address- It’s always a good idea to leave ways to contact you at the end of the page such as links to your social media or your email address. This will help drive traffic to your social media pages as well as help your readers contact you more easily.

5 Mistakes Bloggers Should Never Make

If you’re a blogger and especially if you’re starting out chances are you may not have even realised you are making these mistakes. Here are five things you should definitely avoid doing.

Not being active– If you are not active on other peoples blog than you can’t expect them to be active on yours. Blogging is definitely a two way street and being active can get you a much larger audience as well as followers. If you’re not active your blog will take longer to grow.

Image result for typing gif

Commenting– As I mentioned be active but don’t spam people with comments that have nothing to do with their comments. A lot of new bloggers end up leaving their link on other peoples posts and it really does not help to do that because it can get a little annoying especially when you do it constantly. Instead leave genuine comments about the post and that will be more likely to lead them back to your blog. If you do want to share your blog you can check if they have a share and promote page which would be the appropriate place to leave your link.

Image result for no one wants that gif

Tags– As I always say tags are super duper important! Make sure you don’t overdo it with the tags though because WordPress will assume you’re spamming and leave your post out of the recommended tags section. I’ve realised that the perfect amount is ten but take a look at what works for you and tag accordingly.

Copying posts/not giving credit to the source– This is a huge no. Don’t ever do this. It is horrible to take credit for another bloggers work. If you are inspired by it and want to share it there is always the option to repost/reblog the original post or if you decide to copy and paste make sure you have the bloggers permission and give them credit for their work.

Image result for copying gif

Spamming followers with posts- It’s great to post regularly but honestly the majority of your followers probably don’t want to see like 20 posts from you everyday. I would suggest don’t post more than once a day and definitely don’t post more than once an hour. You may end up getting traffic/followers for a while because you’re in the algorithm but it will mess up your blog on the long run and decrease activity.

How To Make Your Posts More Interesting

Catchy titles– The title is the first thing your reader is going to read and you don’t want to lose them so make sure you use a catchy title that will make them read further on. Please don’t use annoying puns that are not funny because that’s just annoying…

Images/GIF’s– using images and gif’s on your post are the best way to spice them up and keep the reader interested. Images/gif’s are a great way to keep your article light and increase engagement.

Image result for like this gif

Popular topics- Even though it is totally okay to write about more unique topics it would help to write about popular topics if you are interested in increasing your traffic/followers. They tend to get way more traffic especially if you’re using the right tags.

Image result for popular gif

Don’t try too hard– it’s totally okay to try and do your best but sometimes overthinking your post shows in your post. A lot of people don’t want to read something that overdone or has too many details because a lot of people prefer short, precise and direct posts so try to keep it short and to the point.

5 Popular Blogging Tips Bloggers Should Never Follow

Although there is some amazing advice out there for bloggers here are some pieces of advice I’ve heard often that don’t really work- at least not for me.

Tags– A lot of sites tell you to be very specific with your tags like instead of “food” tag it “lasagna” or “sandwich” but in my opinion this is a really bad idea for multiple reasons. First of all there are a huge number of people who would be interested in food or larger topics in general compared to the number of people interested in a specific thing. By being specific you are losing a lot of traffic. Furthermore, more people are likely to search a general topic on search engines like food rather then a specific one and so again you would be losing traffic.

Niche- A lot of people advice that you stick to one or a minimum amount of topics on your blog but in my opinion you can do a lot of topics and still get a good following/traffic. You just need to plan yourself out properly and make sure your blog isn’t just a mess of random posts. Using multiple topics can help bring a lot of people interested in different things on your blog rather than those who would follow it from just one topic.

Titles– Using a catchy and unique title is great sometimes but a lot of times there are titles that are more likely to get traffic like “how-to’s” and “top 10’s”. Sometimes sticking to these titles does help increase traffic especially from search engines.

Image result for old is gold gif

Topics- Even though it is a good idea to do more popular topics sometimes it really works in your favour to do something unique because you never know people might love it. Although a lot of people say that you should write on popular topics especially if you are blogging to earn money I think trying something unique would be worth it sometimes and may actually increase the popularity of your blog.

Image result for topics gif

Comments- Even though you should comment and interact on others blogs saying nothing and just leaving a link to your blog or a post on your blog is just annoying and less likely to bring you traffic or followers. Instead try to be genuine and show interest in their post and this will help bring traffic to your blog.
