Bye Bye 2018

So much has happened this year I thought I would talk about it in the last post of 2018. Firstly, I finally got to do a bunch of History courses at university which was amazing because last year was great and I got to do some fun random courses but I’m here for the history and I was so happy to do a majority of history courses this year!

I also was able to travel more which was so fun and if you’ve been following me for a while now you know travelling has been one of my biggest goals.

Image result for travel gif

I tried so many new things which all gave me crazy anxiety but it was also super fun and exciting which is also something I really wanted to do in 2018 and was able to achieve!

One of my biggest achievements was reaching 5000 followers and finally being able to learn how to balance university and blogging. I am so happy that so many of you chose to follow this blog and all of you guys are so sweet and interactive I love hearing your thoughts in the comments it always makes my day!

I also had a great year mentally and emotionally. I’ve always had trouble expressing myself but I think I’m finally getting better at it which is helping with my anxiety. I am also learning to deal with my anxiety better and learning how to do things even if they do make me anxious because my anxiety should not be the one in control.

I also ate a healthier plant based diet which was something I had been trying to do for a really long time.

What do I want from 2019? Well to keep doing all these things that are making me feel better and to do more things like these and to try and remove as much negativity from my life as possible. (I’ll be posting my 2019 resolutions soon so look out for that for more details on my goals for 2019!)

IT WAS FIFTY YEARS AGO TODAY- MONDAY DECEMBER 30, 1968- FRANK SINATRA RECORDS ‘MY WAY’

The history behind my favourite Frank Sinatra song!

slicethelife

It was fifty years ago today- Monday December 30, 1968- Frank Sinatra recorded what would become one of his ‘signature songs’- My Way.

The original song was written as a French pop song Comme  d’habitude [ As Usual} by Claude Francois and Jacques Revaux and performed by Francois. Canadian singer Paul Anka heard the song in 1967 and went to France to negotiate the rights to the song. He thought it was a terrible record but had something in it. Anka acquired the rights. A while later he was dining in Florida with Sinatra and a couple Mob guys- when he heard Sinatra say “I’m quitting the business. I’m sick of it. I”m getting the hell out.”  When Anka got back to New York City he took the original song and re-wrote it for Sinatra. Sinatra would record it on this date and release it as a single in early…

How Many Of My Resolutions Did I Keep

So before this year started I posted a bunch of resolutions that I wanted to achieve this year which is not something I usually do because I’m not a big fan of the whole making resolutions thing but a bunch of other bloggers were doing it and it seemed fun so I thought I would give it a try. So I thought since the year is almost over which resolutions I kept and which ones didn’t work out as planned! To check out the resolutions post click here.

Make more time for blogging

This was the first resolution I had on the list and thankfully I have kept it… for the most part. I mean sure sometimes I get lazy or really busy and can’t post regularly but especially recently I feel as though my excitement and inspiration for blogging has really come back and I have been trying to blog at least 5 times a week which has been amazing! It has really helped increase traffic and followers and most importantly it has given me more enthusiasm to write more!

Eat healthier

I started eating a plant-based and much healthier diet. I mean I’m not going to act like I did not eat any junk food because you know I did but I ate healthier junk food and a much healthier diet in general which is what I think counts! I love this resolution because it really made the biggest impact in my life and I genuinely feel better then ever thanks to the changes in my diet!

Write at least one page a day

I tried you guys. I really did. But I’ve been super busy and I just have not had the time or energy to keep up with this one. But maybe next year!

Explore more

I did! I tried new stuff that was kind of scary (thanks social anxiety) and also made a bunch of new friends!

I’m a history major so a large part of my studies is just reading so I didn’t have a lot of time to read other stuff but I did read a couple of books that I wanted to review which was so fun. Plus, I think it counts as reading even if it’s historical sources and stuff!

Build a snowman (that one’s just for fun!)

This one hasn’t happened yet but there’s still time!

Image result for do you wanna build a snowman gif

Don’t give up on German!

Learn something new everyday

Well I tried and I can honestly say I learnt so much this year. Maybe not every single day but significantly more then the last two decades of my life!

Image result for sure why not gif

Start a YouTube Channel over summer

Yeah that didn’t happen…

Image result for yeah not gif

Support more blogs

I will never stop doing this and yes I did end up visiting a bunch of new blogs and reading a bunch of awesome posts and sharing some amazing posts with you guys as well!

Get a job

I’m working on it.

Image result for i'm working on it gif

Be more communicative with my feelings instead of repressing everything

I did and it opened a gate and now I can’t stop… help me…

About The Author

Prometheus Silver grew up in the beautiful Hudson Valley outside of New York. He left his home when he joined the United States Army. He now lives in Missouri with his four daughters and wife to be. He spends most of his days writing and having fun with his family.
My Thoughts
First of all I liked that it was not too long because I’m super busy very often but I still want to read but if the book is too long I kind of keep putting it off.  The genre is fantasy and the plot, characters and writing is all really great!
I also really enjoyed the plot of the book and I don’t want to give anything away so I’ll keep it short and simple. The plot is really fun and exciting and moves really fast which I love.
I also really liked the characters- they were fun, unique and a bit crazy (in a good way). I liked The Rat character because it was colorful and exciting and rebellious.
The story was definitely exciting and keeps you wanting to read more. It definitely is super well written and the descriptions were also really imaginative and fun to read.
If like me you want to read but not something that’s too long this is absolutely perfect for you. Especially if you’re a fan of the fantasy genre.

Winter (Guest Post)

Crimson embers of fire crackle,
Beneath the pale moon light.
The stars they twinkle like tiny freckles,
Upon the face of the night.

The sun awakens, from its slumbers,
Naked vegetation shivers with delight.
For they are scarce, they’re few in number,
Desperate for the light.

The season sets a spell of slumber,
Upon the many lives,
Of plants and animals growing fonder,
To sleeping day and night.

This too shall pass,
It just takes might,
Time will change,
The clock will strike.

A day will come,
Where we can surrender the fight,
Of surviving these testing hardships,
But until then. Goodnight.

Well-Being Tips For Students (Guest Post)

Student life has many ups and downs, you meet lots of new people and soon realise just how appalling your cooking ‘skills’ really are. But not to worry, here are some ways you can make being a student a walk in the metaphorical park:

1. Meals
a) Eat Right, Eat Regularly

I made the mistake or trying to save money by reducing my weekly grocery shop and as a result became damn near skeletal. In other words please do not starve yourself to save money. It really isn’t smart, sure you have that extra cash to splurge at the weekends with your friends but what’s the point when you have headaches and grumbling stomachs for the rest of the time? Your grades will suffer, in fact, your overall lifestyle will. If you do find money is tight see b)

b) Saving money

If you want to save money, do it the safe way. One great way is through making your own lunch to bring with you as oppose to buying it out of cafes, restaurants or food trucks during the week. Relatively inexpensive, nutritious and filling recipes can be found easily enough online, some go to websites of mine are:
 Food Network
 BBC Good Food
 Delicious Magazine
Online sites catered to students for tips on budgeting and offering discounts can be found too. Some I used were:
 Student Beans
 Money Saving Expert
 Groupon

2. Social
a) Join a club

Even if you feel like sitting in your room watching cooking shows all day, you will most likely find more enjoyment going for a walk with your course mate than watching Gordon Ramsay almost get food poisoning (okay maybe not). To be honest, I didn’t go out enough in my first year at college and my mood dropped a lot, it’s only when I started going to the pub or the park with my peers that I soon realised that sometimes you have to do what’s uncomfortable for it to pay off. Sure it was easier being socially awkward and sitting in my room but was it doing me good in the long run? Definitely not. Not everyone’s idea of fun is going out to get absolutely wasted at nightclubs and this is fine. But instead of just sitting at home why not invite people round for a games night, have a movie night at someone’s or a bake off? Low cost, lots of people – high reward.

b) Do some volunteering in the local area

There’s always someone’s granny who needs their dog walked or garden de-weeding, right? Doing something for the local community not only benefits them but also you too. I’ve heard of certain organisations that kill two birds with one stone in that you have to jog from place to place to help the local community. Do good and feel good, sounds like a plan.

3. Well-Being
College/University is a time when you will probably meet more people in that time frame than ever again in your life. As great as this is, it’s also important to not forget about ‘you’.

a) Pamper yourself

Maybe do this once a week. Perhaps treat yourself to a lunch where you eat out, that isn’t your usual ham and cheese roll each Friday. That way you have it to look forward to at the end of the week. Why not slap on a hair and face mask that evening too? Hard study needs rewarding, wouldn’t you agree?

b) Speak to a counsellor or your doctor

If you do ever feel that college life is getting too much at times, do not bottle this in. Admitting you are struggling is not a sign of weakness, it is a sign of strength. Strength in that you are hopeful in finding a way to overcome the pressures you may feel you are facing. I wasn’t enjoying my course at university and found it very helpful to speak to a counsellor once a fortnight to get it off my chest.

Each of us having different coping mechanisms to stress, and feeling stressed at some stage of education is normal, it means you care. But don’t let pressure build up, it’s only detrimental to you then. Seek help if you need it.

c) Spend time on your own

I don’t mean all day mind you, but sometimes just going to a coffee shop and reading The Wind in The Willows is just what you need to keep those cortisol levels down. Whether it’s going to the gym or taking a walk in the park, if you need your own space then don’t feel bad about it. It doesn’t mean you’re unsocial or selfish if anything it allows you to clear your head, put your best foot forward and infact be the best version of yourself towards those around you.

4. Study

I almost forgot about this one, easily done when you have a hair mask to put on, friends to meet tomorrow evening and an innocent kitten to rescue from a tree.
Obviously the main reason you pay thousands in cash each year is for a piece of paper at the end of it saying that you aren’t just a pretty face. Keep this in mind, procrastination is one thing but don’t make it a permanent thing. If you’re struggling with your degree be it for the level of difficulty or lack of interest you may have in it then voice this and get help. College isn’t for everyone, think wisely about your career goals and how college fits into this. On the other hand if you do enjoy the course and are working hard at it then don’t forget to reward yourself every once in a while. It’s easy to become too hard on ourselves, setting high goals does not mean we have to set hard punishments on ourselves. Perhaps try the carrot before the stick.

Being a student enriches your life in many more ways than simply knowing why the sky is blue or why we yawn, it offers a plethora of memories to take with you in your future. But the key thing is, if you are a student now. live in the present and look after yourself.

Life Story

Erin was born in Kansas City, Missouri and later moved to the small town of El Dorado Springs (That’s El
Do-RAY-Do), Missouri where she spent most of her life.
In 2007 she moved to Fredericksburg, Virginia and graduated from Germanna Community College with honors. If that wasn’t enough… she decided to enroll in courses at Mary Washington University and earned a Bachelor’s in English, Linguistics, and Communications in 2015.

Writing

From there, she published her first novel “Synchronicity” and only lost a small portion of hair from stress.
In 2017, she published the sequel, “Menoetius”, and in 2018 she became fed up with a teeny-tiny copyright incident and collaborated with other authors from the writing community to compile a multi-
genre anthology entitled “Cocky-Tales”. She is currently working on “Forbidden” to be published this winter.

Erin’s writing has placed in a variety of competitions including second place in the Sudden Denouement
Divergent Literature Competition and the CN International Flash Fiction Competition, and most recently,
her piece “The Final Battle” placed first in her heat in round one of the 2018 NYC Midnight Short Story
Competition.

In 2017, Erin was invited to sit on not only the Horror/Sci-Fi/Fantasy writer’s panel at the Fredericksburg
Independent Book Festival, she also sat on the YA panel. In February 2018, she joined the judging panel
for the CN International Pens of Roses Flash Fiction Competition and in March, joined another author
panel in Richmond, Virginia.

Erin works as an editor at FunDead Publications and offers free-lance editing on the side.

Film/TV

Think you’ve seen Erin on TV? You betcha!
Erin got her start as a contestant on Netflix’;s hot new baking show, “NailedIt!”. Following that experience,
she can be found on a variety of Investigate Discovery shows including “Unmasked” and “Dead of Night”.
Erin’s also worked on a couple of independent films due out next year.

When She Walked Away

As a survivor of domestic violence, Erin strives to give back to the community that offered her the support
and encouragement to not only leave her situation but to find her voice. This is what led to the founding of When She Walked Away. A small, but steadily growing community that places direct emphasis on
providing encouragement, information, and support to women and children who have experienced or are
experiencing domestic violence.
