GIRL POWER🙌🙌🏾

PASSION&DIARIES

Smart girls don’t need tricks and lies to get what they want. Matter of fact, we represent hard work, strength and charity. We have been through the storm and survived. We don’t use our beauty and charms to manipulate people into getting what we want because we can get it anyway!

Being a girl of substance is as much acknowledging your power as it is being humble about it. Believe it or not a nation is made or broken by its women, we can hold up or tear a house, make love or make war.

You must recognize that power isn’t about winning, or about cameras flashing but its about believing in yourself, creating a sisterhood, asking for what you want straight up, showing up and never giving up.

Here are some few tricks to live by.

  • check your emotions
  • remain true to your dreams
  • cut and let go when…

How To Deal With Anxiety When Moving

Whether it’s moving out of your parents house or moving to a different continent moving is always super terrifying. Some months ago I made the huge decision of moving from Kenya to Canada for university and as someone with anxiety it was pretty stressful and anxiety inducing. Here are some tips that helped me deal with my anxiety during the move.

Stay focused- Sometimes anxiety can really get the best of you and a lot of times I ended up thinking “is this really what I want?”, “is this worth it?”, but you have to remember your goal. You have to remember everything you are going to be able to gain if you go through with it. Really think about it and don’t let anxiety cloud your thinking. If you want, you can write down all the reasons you want to/should move so that whenever you’re feeling anxious you can read it and remember why you’re doing this and why it’s worth it!

Yoga and meditation- I know I talk about this one a lot but the truth is yoga and meditation can really be life savers for a lot of people with anxiety. It will help you stay calm both in your everyday life and during stressful times such as moving. It helps focus your mind and teaches you to control your thoughts.

Take some time off- Take some time to relax and watch a movie or something. Your life doesn’t need to revolve around the move although it’s understandable that a major part of it will. Sometimes you just need to shut off your brain and do nothing which is where reality TV comes in… seriously it’s a great distraction!

Hobbies- Remember to have some hobbies like reading, writing, watch TV in your sweat pants… It helps to do a bunch of other stuff too because when your mind is idle it tends to over-think things and that’s often when the anxiety takes over.

Talk to a professional- If you’re feeling really anxious and nothing seems to be working please do talk to a professional about your situation. Just talking about what you’re going through really helps sometimes and there is nothing wrong with seeking help.

Vegan Tofu Scramble Recipe!

I’ve always loved tofu, but I’m not a big fan of making breakfast because it usually takes forever. This is such a great recipe to make when you’re in a hurry but want a healthy and filling breakfast! Of course, you can make it whenever, but I usually have it for breakfast.

My 7 Favourite Drugstore Beauty Products

E.l.F BB Cream- This is probably the best BB Cream I’ve ever used. It’s super easy to use and has amazing coverage too. Plus, my skin is on the dryer side and this is perfect for that kind of skin because it’s super moisturizing and doesn’t look flaky!

E.L.F Lip Balms- When I bought these honestly they were on sale and I was like it’s a good price might as well try them out. But over time these have become one of my favourite E.L.F products ever. Like I honestly sometimes just wear the pink lipbalm before I go out along with the BB Cream and it’s perfect for a natural look. All the lip balms are super hydrating and smell really nice although they do not last more than an hour or so. I usually pair them with a similar coloured matte lipstick for a different effect and to last longer if I’m going somewhere fancy.

NYX Matte Lipstick- This is probably also something I use almost on an everyday basis. It’s perfect paired with the pink E.L.F lip balm if you don’t want it to be too matte or on it’s own if you want that really matte effect. I have kind of dry lips so I don’t love these lipsticks on their own but they’re absolutely perfect for me with some lip balm.

Sleek Contour KitThis is my go-to contour kit. The bronzer is really easy to blend in and the highlighter is not too crazy but bright enough that it does a good job highlighting. This is perfect if you’re a starter or aren’t the best at contouring and don’t want to look insane!

Maybelline ‘Fit Me!’ Poreless Foundation- Okay, honestly there is nothing that could make me hate this foundation. It has crazy coverage (I usually only have to use a few drops) and it’s super easy to blend. I also found the perfect shade for my skin which is awesome because usually the foundations that are close to my skin tone look kind of orange and I hate that. It also comes in matte and normal so you can pick whichever you prefer. I wouldn’t recommend the matte foundations if you have dry skin of blemishes because it tends to show it more.

Maybelline Falsies Mascara- This is another one of those things I use almost daily. Mascara can really make or break your look and it’s seriously a gamechanger. This one is really easy to put on and it makes you look like you’re wearing false lashes even when you’re not. This is honestly, the best mascara I’ve used so far although I have been meaning to try some new ones so let’s see!

Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer- This is honestly the only concealer I’ve found so far that’s perfect for my skin tone and has amazing coverage. I have quite a few concealers some on the expensive side too and none of them compare to this one.

6 Ways To Look After Your Mental Health When You’re Physically Sick

Recently I was really sick and I realised it affected my mental health more than it should have. When I thought about it I noticed that my physical health plays a big role in my mental health and when I’m feeling sick physically my mental health also seems to deteriorate. It’s like your brain knows your defences are down and it attacks. Anyway, these are some of the things that help me out with that and I hope they help you too!

  1. Talk to someone- talk to your family members, friends or even a professional if you feel as though your physical illness is seriously effecting your mental health. Talk to someone and tell them how you feel. I can not emphasize enough how important it is to make sure as you recover physically you are feeling good with your mental health too.
  2. Meditation and yoga- if you can’t do a lot of stretchy yoga positions there are still some really easy ones that pretty much consist of lying down or sitting. If you still feel as though you can’t do these try doing some meditation. You don’t even have to move to meditate and it’ll make you feel tons better to just clear your head for a bit and relax.
  3. Check for side effects- A lot of medicines have horrible side effects including things like depression, anxiety and insomnia. If you already suffer from any of these they might make them a lot worse so make sure you know what you’re taking and that it doesn’t have these side effects. Or if you can’t change your meds try taking something along with them to counter the side effects.
  4. Talk to your doctor ahead of time- Talk to your doctor and let him know if you have any mental disorders that you fear may have gotten worse or will get worse because of your physical illness. Be open about it because that’s the only way they’ll know what’s going on with you. And even though it can be terrifying to open up about your mental illness/es it’s important to remember they’re professionals and it’s their job to treat you not judge you.
  5. Take extra care of yourself- Remember that you should be the most important person in your life. Take care of yourself- eat healthy, drink lots of fluids, get lots of rest and just do whatever it takes to make a speedy recovery. Once you feel better physically, you’ll feel better mentally too.
  6. Stay distracted- Read, sleep, play games, start working on your doctorate… whatever, just keep yourself distracted from negative thoughts. I’m usually not one to say distract yourself or bottle up your thoughts but sometimes it’s better than dealing with them when you’re already feeling down. You can deal with them when you get better.

If you feel like your mental health is still not improving please seek medical help as soon as you can.

Why I Wasn’t Around Last Week

So before last week I was on the right track and blogging regularly but on Saturday I started feeling slightly sick but I just ignored it and I was like it’ll probably go away. But by Sunday night it got really bad so I decided to go to the doctor on Monday and get it over with.

Unfortunately, the doctor misdiagnosed my symptoms and gave me the wrong medicines which literally made me feel like I was dying. I have seriously never felt that bad in my life.

So I went to a different doctor recommended by a friend and she at least diagnosed me correctly. However, even after asking her to give me mild medicines since I am sensitive to most medications and get allergic reactions she still gave me really strong medicines and the next day not only was I super sick but now my face and half my body had broken out in rashes.

They were super red and itchy and I had no idea what to do so I went to a third doctor and he told me they were an allergic reaction to the meds I was taking and that it was a really high dose of a very strong medicine. I was pretty pissed considering I had told her I wanted something super mild but I just let it go since she was just trying to do her job (not very well though).

Anyway now that I’m off all the meds, except the allergy ones, I feel much better and I think I’m going to be fine soon. Moral of the story: Don’t get sick in Kenya unless you know a really good doctor (and if you know a really good doctor in Nairobi let me know because I am not going through this again!)

Also I realized I forgot to mention what I had- it was swollen lymph nodes, a throat infection, fever and a runny nose.

BeGreatGuys Monday Motivation #6

It’s never too late for some Monday motivation!!

“We won’t be perfect. It will be challenging sometimes & we will get frustrated, possibly even overwhelmed with anxiety. That’s to be expected when you have goals and aspirations and passions in life — but the end result will be: a sense of accomplishment, a sense of progress, a sense of productivity and growth. All of those things will come if we DO WHAT WE SAID WE WERE GOING TO DO. ” Sha-lon Moss

Staying healthy isnt a crime-Fitness is a lifestyle choice

“Do what you said you were going to do”

In other words, whatever it is you said you would do, that you have to do, that you want to do – DO IT!

The problem is we get caught up on words, we say things but have a difficult time putting forth the action – for example: “I want to open my own gym”, that’s something someone wants to do, but the problem is, they aren’t doing anything about it and if they are doing something — they are running out of patience and not seeking the help they need to make that into an action; in turn, giving up or complaining. I realize owning a gym would be difficult for most people (expenses, responsibility, learning the business side of things, taking a risk, seeking employees, etc. BUT it is POSSIBLE. Maybe in the moment it seems like a…
